1 more day!

I just had my last status meeting! This time tomorrow I'll be saying goodbye to my co-workers and I'll be free! I like the company, its been fun. But I can't wait to be done!

The past couple of weeks have been really busy so theres been a lack of posting. Just a lot of packing, hanging out with friends, and lots of dessert. Sigh, I just found this wonderful and amazing cheecake place last week and now I'm leaving it behind :(

I was actually feeling quite sad about leaving the other day, though that may have been picked up just by reading my last post. I'm not down at the moment though. I'm going to miss it for sure, but the excitment of things I'm going to do this week and the excitement of going home are also starting to kick up a gear :)

I went to a circus yesterday. It was by the seaport by the water side facing jersey. Pier 17. What an odd place to have a circus. Made odder still that the show was a 930 and to my surprise (though it makes sense now) it was not family friendly. Nothing too bad but still a bit risque. It was really quite good though.

In Canada whenever I have loose change at stores I usually drop it in the unicef boxes or whatever donation boxes you'll usually see at stores or fast food places. I don't see those as much in new york so I just had this little box I dropped change in at home. I didn't think much of it. I though ok maybe I have about 10-15$ or so in there now. I went to the bank yesterday to drop it in the coin counter machine and get cash for it and it turned out to be....$184! Sweet, that just bought me my circus ticket (hehe bought me my circus ticket...I dont know why I'm amused by that) and my restaurant week meals!

Anyhow, that was a fairly ordinary post. I'll try to be a bit more interesting next time. Probably have a collection of new york pics I think...

long weekend

The long weekend is here. I've been here for 9-10 days so far. I'd have to say, when I first got here. I did not like it. But I'm slowly adjusting and I'm warming up to the place. Work well I'm still quite lost but I'm not as worried about it as before. A false sense of security though perhaps?

Pictures? I'll get around to it. I've walked a little around the local area. Not too much around nyc itself. but then its huge, i could walk several weekends and probably still be able to say that. but really, haven't done much exploring yet. punit and anojan are fairly busy. weekends are when we do grocery shopping. i still have to get an ssn and bank account and well everything takes time and before you know it, time is gone.

the doorman at this place are quite friendly. i just had like a 15min conversation with michael the french doorman guy. about life being about relationships and happingess and giving to others and not materialism and whatnot. i'm not quite sure how i got into that conversatoin. i think he might have had things on his mind cause i kind of just wanted to go upstairs cause i was tired. and carrying some heavy bags. but when you talk about such things. you have to pause and listen. and realize. because otherwise you're doing exactly what you yourself talk about and say is wrong with the world. even if i'm a bit tired. there is no harm in stopping and talking to someone for 15mins. otherwise, what? i go up and blog 15mins earlier? meh. i feel like i need more friends here. i dn't like having a small network. and this is quite small right now.

i'm at work a few days ago. tuesday i think it was. mark (my would have been supervisor who is leaving for toronto to pursue another job and whose duties i am now sort of taking) and the president ie. bossman, tom and i were in a meeting. oh and mark will be available for some work in toronto for a week or 2. anyways. oh and tom is going on vacation. and mark is leaving. and mark asks tom who should be my contact point if i have questions, yourself? or aaron (another guy at the company). and tom is like, you should be (to mark). and mark is like, alright. i better get a phone soon then in toronto. and you should have seen toms face. hehe so funny. ok, i'm telling the story badly i think. oh well, it was funny to me. i think you need to understand the situation better. i've had little time to get up to speed on things before marks leaves so tom is a bit concerned about all that.

so what will i do the rest of the weekend? you know i have no idea really. probably not too much actually. i bought a lamp today. i haven't got my first paycheque and wont get it for a couple more weeks so...can't go crazy with the spending yet. though i really want to go see some shows. really really want to go see some shows. but soon enough.

k, next time i'll at least try to get some pics of the apartment or something up.

So I finally made it to NYC!

So here is my new blog. I had to give up the waterloo blog. Maybe i'll finally blog more though cause with this it is easier to blog.

Anyways, I'm in NY now. Everyone keeps asking how it is. And what have I done. But really I only got here a few days ago. And the 2nd day here I was already going to work. Oh, if your wondering about my whole visa staory...well ask me later, its old news now, so blah.

Where to start. Ok the beginning. The short version. Flight was only 1hr. Some turbulence which was a bit scary but otherwise it was fine. Was really tired on the flight though. Took cab from airport to apartment without any big problems.

I'm living with 2 guys from waterloo, Anojan and Punit. I've known anojan since 1st year and i know who punit is but i'm only getting to know him now. He's a cool guy. I live in the living room. Its big, but it lacks privacy. I'll figure out something for that eventually.

Work is overwhelming. I was hired to do some research into an RSS product they were thinking of. But my would be supervisor is leaving the company so I am now assuming many of his responsibilities. So I write functional and technical specifications. And I will be managing one of the offshore development workers in the Ukraine. Thats pretty cool I think, but yeah its all overwhelming. And I tell people this. and they wonder why i'm scared, but part of it is, I've never done this before. And its a small company. I have a lot of responsibility. I'm only the 6 person in the company, not counting the offshore ppl or the guy thats leaving. also, i was hired and interviewd for the RSS thing not the work Im doing now. Well maybe sort of I was, the guy interviewing is the guy leaving and he knows what was going to happen (sort of) but still. I worry. It really is overwhelming. oh, my title is product manager. :)

How is new york so many ppl ask? Its nice I guess. I haven't seen much yet. I just have a lot to do for settling. And its hard. I miss my car. and Van. You have to walk for everything here. Walk to subway, take subway, get off, walk to supermarket, carry it back to subway, carry on subway, carry back home. Walk to store, buy desk, carry box home. My arms are just tired afterwards. Almost to the point where your muscles shake involuntarily cause its heavy and they are tired. Caitlin called me a squirrel. Going back and forth getting stuff and bringing it home.

I did go biking with Noah on Saturday. Central park was nice. But getting there was an adventure. Biking down the streets of new york with no helmet. hehe, I didn't look around at the scenary I was just watching out for cars and my life! but it was fun. also tiring, i'm so out of shape. i need to start excercising. somehow, just cardio at the apartment i guess. the local gym is way too expensive. so yeah just basic cardio at the apartment they have some threadmills and a bike and stuff.

I'm sure there is a lot more to tell. But I think thats enough for now. I know ppl want pictures, but i haven't taken any yet so you will all have to be patient.

if you have any questions though i'll try to answer.

oh there was a team event yesterday. typically they go bowling or a bar or movie. they went to a internet cafe though and we played unreal tournament 2004 and had pizza. it was cool. normally i'm the free kill for others cause i dont' know what i'm doing. but this time. they didn't know what they were doing either. cept for 1 guy, we were all novices. so i did decently well. consistently coming in 2nd or 3rd but usually 2nd. though i was feeling quite sick yesterday, i felt like throwing up actually, but i think that was just lack of fluids and proper eating i'm fine now. k, thats really enough for now.
